When I say cyber-security, firewalls are one of the first things that come to mind. Firewalls are a crucial piece in anyone's cyber-security protection. With all of the various types of network security risks that exist, firewalls play the crucial role of preventing unauthorized access to or from a private connection within the network. SonicWall and Sophos are considered two of the bigger fish in the sea when it comes to firewall protection. In this blog I want to outline some of the differences between Sophos and SonicWall.

Of course, if we were to compare and contrast some of the differences between Sophos and SonicWall we'd be bias so we want to take a look at some third party views comparing the two.
1. Gartner- For the third consecutive year, SonicWall has been placed in Challengers quadrant of Gartner’s 2017 Magic Quadrant for Unified Threat Management and a Niche Player in Gartner’s 2017 Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Network Firewalls. Sophos has been recognized as a Leader in UTM Magic Quadrant for the sixth consecutive year and positioned as a Niche Player in Enterprise Network Firewalls.
2. Miercom- Meircom has conducted an independent performance testing against several security vendors including Sophos and SonicWall. Sophos excelled all participants including SonicWall. In UTM mode, it surpassed the competitive performance by 31.3%.
3. NSS- SonicWall performed below average in 2017 NSS Labs Next Generation Firewall Group and received a Caution rating in test results. Sophos XG firewalls rated among the highest performing products by NSS Labs. The XG Firewall was “Recommended” as one of the top three products for security effectiveness. It passed all stability and reliability tests, offering some of the highest levels of protection and performance at great value.
