As the Director of Operations for Pine Cove Consulting I manage all of our managed services, service delivery, and projects. Our main focus as an organization is helping K-12 schools with technology focusing on both the overall strategy and infrastructure. Our business is very cyclical and the busiest time of the year for me specifically is the summer. Summer here in the Northern Rockies is pretty much amazing! Most people spend the entire day outside enjoying the outdoors, but there are a select few who hide in dark closets in closed schools working on projects to make the school IT infrastructure better for the upcoming school year. It is not uncommon for 3 or 4 different crews of our rockstar engineers to be working on different projects at the same time. It is quite a logistical challenge, but here at PCC we love challenge! We completed 25 projects this summer and I wanted to share some of what we did to give you a better idea of who Pine Cove Consulting is and what we do.
Mobile devices and distance learning are two main areas that all schools are focused on implementing. In regards to mobile devices such as tablets and laptops for students, one area that is often overlooked is the infrastructure required to do the implementation. Many schools put the cart before the horse, so to speak, and buy a bunch of devices without thinking of what is actually required to run them. Consulting on the strategy for these implementations is one of our main areas of focus. Another major focus area is the infrastructure components (network, servers, storage, etc…) required to support these devices. So what did we do this summer???
This summer we…
- Assisted in various areas of 10 mobile device implementations.
- Upgraded or replaced 9 different district-wide networks.
- Performed 10 major server/storage upgrades.
- Installed 500 seats of VDI (virtual desktops).
- 20 distance learning deployments across the Northwest.
- Installed 2 large ShoreTel phone systems.
We are still planning a few more installs for this fall and winter, but the majority of our focus has shifted back to technical support since school started. You don’t have to search very hard to find stories of how technology is changing the face of education or how new learning environments are being created with the use of mobile devices and distance learning. We are very happy to be able to assist so many districts on their journey into the future. What can we do for yours?
